With the Los Angeles Dodgers preparing for the upcoming 2026 MLB Playoffs, the team is looking to get back key players from injuries, with catcher Dalton Rushing about to return to the roster. As the Dodgers look to finalize their playoff strategy ahead of the postseason, the team gets huge news regarding the 25-year-old catcher.

According to MLB.com, Rushing is “set to be activated” from the 10-day injured list for the final regular-season series against the San Francisco Giants. Rushing last played for Los Angeles Sept. 4, as the star had been dealing with “right elbow discomfort,” though it goes beyond that, as he’ll only be a hitter this season after a “partial tear of the ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow.

Rushing will have three games to prove his worth on the Dodgers’ postseason roster, but there’s no denying that Los Angeles manager Dave Robertswants to give him a shot.

“Just the circumstances of his situation, it’s just tough to just be hurt, be back, then be hurt again,” Roberts said Thursday, via Sonja Chen of MLB.com. “And then take three pinch-hit at-bats, potentially, and then say, ‘Hey, you’re on the roster.’ What he’s done for us this season certainly deserves some consideration. That’s kind of giving him the respect and thoughtfulness of what he’s done for us.”

More on the decision regarding Dodgers’ Dalton Rushing 

With three games left in the regular season for the Dodgers, Rushing has recorded a .249 batting average to go along with 12 home runs and 36 RBIs in 78 games and 221 plate appearances. While the small sample size of three games could be discouraging for his chances at making Los Angeles’ playoff roster, Dodgers president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman is also looking at his season as a whole.

“He’s done everything he can to put himself in a position to be in the conversation for us as we’re making our postseason roster,” Friedman said.

At any rate, it remains to be seen how Rushing plays after returning from the injured list with an elbow issue as Friday starts the series against the Giants.
