German Football Federation (DFB) sporting director Rudi Völler hopes Florian Wirtz stays at Bayer Leverkusen for another year and doesn't expect a quick decision on his future.

"My favourite solution is for him to stay there for another year and then move on. My Leverkusen team could live with that, but I don't know if other clubs could either," Völler at an event of telecommunications company Telekom in Berlin.

Völler played in Leverkusen between 1994 and 1996. He was their coach on an interim basis twice and also had different positions at the club management.

Wirtz has a contract with Leverkusen until June 2027, but Bayern Munich and Liverpool are reportedly working to sign him.

According to reports, the Bayer pharmaceutical company, which owns Levekusen has, given the green light for the sale of Wirtz, but only for €150 million ($170.2 million).

The high sum reportedly forced Manchester City out of the race for the 22-year-old.

Völler didn't want to comment on the status of the negotiations.

"Many people know that I still have a small office in Leverkusen, but they don't tell me everything anymore," he joked.
