Two injured after use of pyrotechnics at Bayern's Allianz Arena

Two people were injured after Sporting fans set off pyrotechnics at the Allianz Arena during the Champions League game against Bayern Munich in the Allianz Arena on Tuesday.

The police said in a statement on Wednesday that a 29-year-old fan, who wasn't involved in the incident, was taken to hospital with injuries to his ear canal and burns.

The other person injured was a 23-year-old police officer, who suffered an acoustic shock.

The police arrested two suspects aged 38 and 47. The two are to be brought before a judge who will decide on a custodial sentence, their report said.

Bayern fans also used pyrotechnics and club CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen said after the match that he expects the partial closure of a fan block.

"It's clear what the (European football ruling body) UEFA sanction will be. There will be a partial ban on fans in the south stand," Dreesen said.

The south stand is were the organized fan groups stay during Bayern games.

At the start of the second half, flares were lit across the entire block.

"Of course I don't think that's good. The weather conditions then also created this smoke and fog in the stadium. I was worried that the game would have to be abandoned because of the visibility. That's simply unacceptable," Dreesen said.

He believes that this time, UEFA may not be able to respond with just a fine. Dreesen recalled "a clear threat of sanctions" from the federation for similar incidents.

The Bayern boss was unable to explain how fireworks are getting into the stadium despite controls: "There are obviously creative ways of getting them in time and time again."

Bayern won the match 3-1.
