Reece James could return to action against Nottingham Forest on Saturday with the issue that caused him to pull out of the England squad thought to be minor according to reports.

James pulled out of the England squad despite initially being named, but it’s understood his withdrawal was precautionary more than anything.

The Chelsea captain has stayed fit since he returned to action in January, and is currently enjoying his longest period injury free in some years.

Chelsea hopeful Reece James will return against Nottingham Forest

James has made nine appearances in all competitions so far this season and has started four of Chelsea’s opening seven league games.

Updates on James since he pulled out of the England squad have been few and far between, but The Standard have reported the issue is understood to be minor and he could return for Saturday’s game against Forest.

Chelsea have managed James carefully since his return from injury and if they feel he’s not 100% Enzo Maresca won’t hesitate to put him on the bench or leave him out completely.

If James were to miss out then Chelsea have Malo Gusto to step in, and the France international has shown he’s a more than capable deputy.

Injury crisis to ease against Forest

Whilst it’s not fully clear if James will return against Forest, the injury list is expected to be much shorter with several players set to return.

Tosin Adarabioyo could be in line to return after a calf injury, whilst Andrey Santos could also be available again, which is good news for Maresca.
