The Pittsburgh Steelers arrived in Dublin, Ireland, Early Friday morning ahead of this week's showdown against the Minnesota Vikings. The two teams will square off at Croke Park on Sunday in Dublin. Head coach Mike Tomlin addressed the media early on Friday morning from Ireland and said the team has no plans to do a walkthrough on the turn at Croke Park.
According to Tomlin, it's unnecessary since the conditions are the same for both teams. Croke Park uses a hybrid turf that is grown off-site and laid at the stadium as needed for events and then recycled afterward. Hybrid turf is a blend of natural and artificial fibers, which is intended to give the feel of natural grass but is more durable and lasts longer under heavy usage.
Mike Tomlin said the team isn't going to do a walkthrough at Croke Park ahead of Sunday's game, and he's not worried about it.
"As long as the field's 100 yards, and all of that stuff and the conditions are the same for both teams, we care very little about that."— Brooke Pryor (@bepryor) September 26, 2025
The only NFL stadium that currently uses hybrid turf is Lambeau Field in Green Bay. The Packers have had the surface since 2018 and the Vikings play there every season.
