San Antonio Spurs Might Already Regret Trading for De'Aaron Fox originally appeared on Athlon Sports.

The San Antonio Spurs, last season, pulled off the biggest trade in franchise history, sending Tre Jones, Zach Collins, and several first-round picks in exchange for De'Aaron Fox.

The expectation was that Fox and Victor Wembanyama would be long-term running mates, although they played only five games together as Wemby missed time with a blood clot issue and Fox missed time with finger surgery.

As a result of their injuries and illnesses, the Spurs ended up with better lottery odds and nabbed the second overall pick, adding another elite guard into the fold with Dylan Harper.

With Stephon Castle, Harper, and Fox all at their best as on-ball players, the Spurs have a surplus of guard talent, and the trade to add Fox now looks redundant.

"Do you think they would have traded for De'Aaron Fox had they known they were going to land second in the lottery and get Dylan Harper?" asked ESPN's Tim MacMahon.

"I don't think they would've, but also they weren't going to know that," answered Tim Bontemps.

The duo went on to claim that the Spurs still intend to sign Fox to a maximum contract as soon as he is eligible next month, and that San Antonio has to prepare for a reality where Harper doesn't pan out.

While fans insist that Harper will be an All-Star, there is a chance that he is simply a role player, and the Spurs would be safer to commit to Fox, although nothing is stopping them from not running with all three of their guards and seeing what happens.
