Oregon Freshman DB Trey McNutt Suffers Practice Injury

One of the goals coming out of Fall camp and the season is staying healthy as a team. But injuries happen and are unavoidable.

One of Oregon’s top freshman DB’s has reportedly suffered an extended injury. On3’s Pete Nakos reports and ScoopDuck has confirmed, former five-star DB Trey McNutt will be out for an extended period of time. It’s reported McNutt suffered a broken leg in one of Oregon’s practices. A typical recovery time from this type of injury can range from 6-12 weeks.

It doesn’t appear this will be a season-ending injury for the talented freshman. A rough estimate could bring him back into a potential playing role around the mid-season point. Of course there is no definitive return date at this time. Lanning will likely update via the media as the weeks count down.

McNutt was a big recruiting win for this staff in the 2025 class. The former five-star was the No. 26 ranked player in the Rivals Industry Rankings. The Shaker Heights (Ohio) product was the No. 2 ranked safety in his class. As such it was expected he would be competing for snaps this season and possibly a starting job.

Oregon will roll out an entirely new defensive backfield with all jobs open. Things have been very tight-lipped from Fall camp so far but the feeling was McNutt was competing for quality playing time already.
