Connor McDavid and the Edmonton Oilers eliminated the Los Angeles Kings in the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the fourth straight year on Thursday night.

Unsurprisingly, McDavid had himself a series. The three-time Hart Memorial Trophy winner recorded 11 points on two goals and nine assists in six games. That performance followed his eighth 100-point season in just 10 years in the NHL.

Looking ahead, the Oilers will take on the Vegas Golden Knights in the second round after rallying from a 2-0 series deficit to beat the Kings.

This marks just the second time Edmonton and Vegas will meet in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Their first matchup came in 2023, when the Golden Knights took the second-round series in six games on their way to winning the franchise’s first Stanley Cup.

Following the Oilers’ Game 6 win over the Kings on Thursday night, McDavid spoke to the media. The 28-year-old star admitted the team is already looking ahead to Vegas, making it clear they haven’t forgotten what happened two years ago.

"Obviously, we're already looking ahead here," McDavid said. "We owe Vegas a good series. We don't forget what happened two years ago. Looking forward to it. Obviously, exciting tonight to get it done. But get ready to go for another big series."

The Oilers and Golden Knights split the regular season series, with Vegas taking the first two and Edmonton taking the most recent two.

Here are the results:

  • Nov. 6, 2024 - Vegas defeated Edmonton 4-2
  • Dec. 3, 2024 - Vegas defeated Edmonton 1-0
  • Dec. 14, 2024 - Edmonton defeated Vegas 6-3
  • April 1, 2024 - Edmonton defeated Vegas 3-2
