News Corp is launching the California Post, a West Coast version of its NYC tabloid

Los Angeles — America’s second most populous city — is getting a new daily newspaper.

News Corp, the parent company of The New York Post and The Wall Street Journal, is expanding westward with the California Post in early 2026, the company announced Monday (expanded announcement here; the release was first reported by Axios.) The California Post will cover the country’s most populous state in the tabloid style, with a daily print edition.

“Los Angeles and California surely need a daily dose of The Post as an antidote to the jaundiced, jaded journalism that has sadly proliferated,” Robert Thomson, CEO of News Corp, said in a statement. “We are at a pivotal moment for the city and the state, and there is no doubt that The Post will play a crucial role in engaging and enlightening readers, who are starved of serious reporting and puckish wit.”

Nick Papps, a longtime News Corp Australia journalist and editor, will lead the California Post as editor-in-chief, and New York Post Group editor-in-chief Keith Poole will oversee the tabloids on both coasts.

Los Angeles is the Post’s second largest market, the company said, and nearly 90% of its digital readers live outside New York City. (For similar reasons, The New York Times launched its weekday newsletter California Today in 2016.)

Surprised this hasn’t happened sooner (and this is the last kind of publication L.A. needs right now) nypost.com/2025/08/04/m…
