Apr. 19—GRAND RAPIDS — The Bemidji High School softball team played in two very different games on Saturday at the Grand Rapids Invitational.
The Lumberjacks cruised to a 12-7 win over the host school before falling 13-0 against Hermantown in five innings.
BHS scored six runs in the first three innings against Grand Rapids. Trailing 2-1, Emma Greiner drew a bases-loaded walk in the top of the second inning. Sammy Nislter followed with an RBI single. The Jacks scored twice more on a passed ball and a fielder's choice.
An error and a passed ball brought home two more in the third to make it 7-5.
Bemidji got all the insurance it needed in the seventh.
Greiner and Ridley Hadrava laced RBI doubles to put the Lumberjacks ahead 10-5. Nistler singled in another run before Olivia Birt scored another with a fielder's choice.
Grand Rapids scored twice on an RBI double in the seventh but couldn't completely close the gap.
Hermantown held BHS to just four singles and a Karley LaZella double in the second game.
