'Job done' - Kilcoo boss Corey satisfied with win
Kilcoo manager Martin Corey felt his side's ability to deal with torrid conditions was decisive in their 0-16 to 0-11 win over Loughmacrory in their Ulster SFC Club quarter-final at Healy Park on Saturday night.
The Down champions were appearing in the provincial arena for the 13th time in 14 years after beating Carryduff to make it seven county titles in a row, while Loughmacory were appearing at this level for the first time after shocking Trillick to win their maiden Tyrone title.
Corey's side grew into the game after a bright start from the first-time Tyrone winners and led at the break, before putting a bit of daylight between the teams in the second period.
"We came to win the game today and get into that last four so job done," reflected Corey in a post-match interview with BBC Sport NI's Odhran Crumley.
"We had seen how well they could play and we were well warned about what they could possibly do to us so it was a brilliant day.
"Tonight was a greasy night, it was a different night for football, it was just about doing the simple things right and I felt we did it quite well.
"The weather was a big factor but I felt that we dealt with that the best. That's probably why we got the win tonight."
'Erne Gaels will be a test for us'
Five points from evergreen forward Paul Devlin, alongside a four-point burst in three second-half minutes, including a two-pointer from Shealan Johnston sent the Down club well on their way.
Kilcoo controlled the tempo of the game throughout, keeping the Tyrone champions scoreless for 19 first-half minutes, repeating the feat in the second half over 15 minutes.
"Probably that wee bit of individual brilliance by Sealan Johnston. He has the capacity to do that and when he does it's special," said Corey of Johnston's significant contribution.
"It probably helped us to get a real good foothold in the game to see the game out."
Martin Corey's side now advance to the last four where they will meet Erne Gaels on the weekend of 22-23 November, that's after the Fermanagh champions earlier disposed of the Cavan winners Kingscourt Stars after extra-time at Breffni Park.
"I saw their final on telly and it was really impressive but I don't know what to say about them because I didn't see them tonight.
"We'll get back to training on Monday night and sometime next week we'll get a look at Erne Gaels and see what we're up against. No doubt it will be another big test for us."
