With the start of September, the Jays have a couple of extra rosters spots (I liked the old days when the team could have up to 40 on the active roster), and filled those spots with Dillon Tate (no the way we spell my son’s name, Dylan. He had a rough day yesterday, coming back from a weekend at a lake and having his girlfriend’s car give up on the way home. I made a drive out to pick them up) and Isiah Kiner-Falefa.
Tate is a RHP who pitched in five games for us in April and May. 5.1 innings with 7 hits, 3 earned, 6 walks and 7 strikeouts. 6 walks in less than 6 innings? For the Bisons, he pitched in 31 games, 35 innings, 5 saves with a 2.06 ERA. In 35 innings he allowed 27 hits, 19 walks and 34 strikeouts.
It was a surprise to me that the called up Tate, but I guess they still have Easton Lucas as a long man.
IKF was picked up just yesterday, for reasons that baffle me. He hit .264/.300/.332 kin 119 games for the Pirates. He falls under the great glove, weak bat umbrella, though he hit well for us last year, .292/.338/.420 in 83 games before we traded him to the Pirates for Charles McAdoo (hitting .250/.324/.425 for the Fisher Cats).
IKF looks to be insurance in case Ernie Clement can’t play, just in case we need a version of Clement who can’t hit.
Along with those moves, Nick Sandlin was moved to the 60-day IL.
