Jaguars K Cam Little barely misses breaking his own record with 70-yard field goal attempt

Cam Little is the NFL’s distance king when it comes to field goals. The Jacksonville Jaguars kicker came perhaps a foot wide of adding an even bigger jewel to his crown on Sunday.

In the final seconds of the second quarter against the New England Patriots, Little lined up for a 70-yard field goal attempt to close the half. Had he made it, he would have broken his own record for the longest field in NFL history at 68 yards and would have possessed the three longest field goals on record.

The kick had the distance, but it wound up wide right. Barely. The Jaguars still entered the locker room with a 14-3 lead after a rough first half from Patriots quarterback Drake Maye.

“For the record, the kick on the way… no good. Boy he had the leg, though,” was the call from play-by-play announcer Spero Dedes.

Little is only in his third NFL season after an All-SEC career at Arkansas but has already left his mark on the record books with makes from 68 yards and 67 yards last season. The record before him was Justin Tucker at 66 yards in 2021.

Little has also actually made a 70-yard field goal on an NFL field, but that was in a preseason game last August. That wound up being foreshadowing for the record to come.
