As Jacksonville Jaguars' head coach Liam Coen continues to get an up-close look at this year's team at practice with OTAs underway, he continues to be impressed with defensive end Travon Walker.
"A pro. A pro’s pro. He’s done things the right way since the day he walked in here. He’s got a great demeanor in terms of just being around the building, being in the meeting setting, but also out here on the grass. He knows how to practice," Coen said after Tuesday's practice, via Jaguars on SI.
Over the last two years, Walker has posted double-digit sacks each season, with 10 in 2023 and 10.5 in 2024. He's also logged 115 pressures during that span, with the 56 that he posted this past season ranking 22nd out of all defensive ends in that category.
Along with his contributions as a pass rusher, Walker also ranked 14th in run stops, according to PFF.
In Anthony Campanile's defensive scheme, we could see more movement up front this season, something GM James Gladstone alluded to, which for Walker could mean some opportunities to rush the quarterback from inside during obvious passing downs.
"You don’t see him out of control all that often," added Coen. "He has really good body control for a big guy. I’m sure he could probably do a lot more damage out here in some of these settings than he’s allowing on, but because he’s doing it the right way. He’s focusing on his fundamentals and techniques, he’s trying to do the right things all the time. You can definitely see some of the leadership qualities he has just naturally.”
Earlier this offseason, with Walker entering the final year of his rookie deal, the Jaguars picked up his fifth-year option for the 2026 season. At any point between now and the end of that 2026 season, Walker is extension-eligible.
