Apr. 16—Future Illinois guard Brandon Lee will play for the United States All-Stars in the 2025 Capital Classic on April 26 at CareFirst Arena in Washington, D.C. Lee's team will face a squad of players from the DMV (D.C., Maryland and Virginia) yet to be named. The event is celebrating its 52nd anniversary this year.
The Capital Classic was established in 1974. Some of its notable alums are Michael Jordan, Moses Malone, Magic Johnson, Ralph Sampson, Dominique Wilkins, Patrick Ewing, Grant Hill, Jason Kidd, Carmelo Anthony, LeBron James, Chris Paul and Dwight Howard.
This year's U.S. All-Stars roster has more Illini connections than just Lee. Also on the roster is Kiwane Garris Jr., who will play next season at Cal State Fullerton. A former Illinois recruiting target — Jamarion Batemon (Iowa State) — is also on the non-DMV roster.
Lee helped the Patrick School (N.J.) go 30-8 this past season playing a national schedule. The 6-foot-5 guard averaged a team-high 22 points.
Two of the Celtics' losses — both by five points — came to Utah Prep, which featured five-star BYU signee AJ Dybantsa, his future Cougars teammate Xavion Staton and Washington-bound guard JJ Mandaquit. Staton and Mandaquit are both four-star, top 50 recruits in the Class of 2025. Lee had 27 points in the first game against Utah Prep in January and 34 in the loss in March.
