Eagles may be finally ready to deliver on a promise made by Doug Pederson

Once upon a time, the Philadelphia Eagles hosted their first Super Bowl parade, and then-head coach Doug Pederson made a promise. He told everyone in no uncertain terms that a 'new norm" was coming. He promised Birds fans that they could get used to seeing their team compete in important postseason games deep into January.

Unfortunately, Coach Pederson couldn't deliver on that promise. 'Normal' following the 2017-18 season was a 9-7 regular-season finish. Philadelphia posted identical, barely above .500 records in 2018 and 2019. The bottom fell out, and the Eagles missed the postseason with a 4-11-1 record in 2020.

Pederson was out, and Nick Sirianni was in. Who knew? Maybe Doug Pederson's premonition was right after all. In Coach Sirianni's first three seasons at the helm, Philadelphia sandwiched another Super Bowl appearance between two first-round exits at the hands of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Are the Eagles finally beginning to deliver on Doug Pederson's promise?

Sirianni and company struck gold this past February, annihilating the red and gold of the Kansas City Chiefs in football's biggest game on the grandest of stages. The Birds didn't celebrate long. They have fully bought into this season's goal.

They have put last season behind them and want to win it all again. Some analysts and experts think they can do so. Some even believe a rubber match with the Chiefs is possible.

Three Super Bowl appearances and two wins in eight years isn't exactly what some might deem a dynasty, but that's okay. There are about 30 NFL teams that would take that over the results of their last eight seasons in a heartbeat.

So what if the 'new norm' took longer than we were promised? At least we weren't hung out to dry as we were with statements like 'Trust the process'. Credit Coach Pederson for delivering something much more important. He delivered a night that many Eagles fans waited their entire lives for.

As special as last February's win was, it's true what they say. There's nothing like the first, and we truly won't forget it. We owe a great deal of thanks to the only man who can call himself the first head coach to lead the Eagles to their first Super Bowl win.
