Commanders' Week 5 Player of the Game: RB Jacory Croskey-Merritt

When the Commanders needed offensive efficiency in their 27-10 Week 5 victory over the Los Angeles Chargers, they turned to their rookie running back Jacory Croskey-Merritt, who set career-highs in rushing touchdowns, rushing yards and carries.

The five-foot-11, 208-pound running back scored the Commanders' first two touchdowns of the game and recorded his first game of his career game with multiple rushing touchdowns.

His first touchdown came in the second quarter, a 15-yard scamper to put Washington on the board.

His second score was a five-yard rushing touchdown to take the lead for the first time in the game and add to Washington's 17 unanswered points. It would eventually become 27 unanswered points thanks to a second Matt Gay field goal and a Deebo Samuel touchdown reception.

Croskey-Merritt finished the game with a career-high 111 rushing yards on a career-high 14 carries and recorded his first game with 100+ rushing yards in his career.

He also tallied two receptions for 39 yards, the third most receiving yards on the team, only behind Deebo Samuel (96) and Luke McCaffrey (50).

He finished the game with 150 all-purpose yards, had the second-longest play of the game — a 28-yard reception — and his career day was the primary reason for Washington's 17-point win.

The third longest play of the game also came from Croskey-Merritt — this time on the ground — a 27-yard rush.

Despite losing a fumble to begin the fourth quarter that gave the ball back to Los Angeles and set up a potential scoring drive for the Chargers, Washington's defense held strong and intercepted Justin Herbert's passing attempt to the endzone on the one-yard line.

He led the team in scoring, and thanks to Mike Sainristil's interception, he did not end up costing Washington points after his turnover. Croskey-Merritt has now recorded 283 rushing yards and four rushing touchdowns this season.

His two scores, 111 yards on the ground, and 39 through the air earned him the Commanders' Player of the Game for Week 5.
