The New York Yankees are now just one game ahead of the Toronto Blue Jays in the AL East, and shortstop Anthony Volpe is a big reason why. The 24-year-old is in a 6-for-53 slump and is 1-for-9 in the last two games against Toronto.

The Yankees lost 5-4 to the Blue Jays in the series opener on Monday before dropping Tuesday's rematch 12-5. Meanwhile, Toronto has won three straight games and is 7-3 in its last 10. The club is also tied with the Tampa Bay Rays as the latter team plays the Athletics on Tuesday night.

New York fans on social media have had enough of Volpe.

"Trade or send down," one person said. "Enough is enough."

"Feel like I’m taking crazy pills every time I see his stats and how awful they are, yet people still come in droves to try and tell me he’s a winning baseball player," another said.

"Yeah, I’m officially out on him," another said. "If he’s not going to hit u can’t be a negative defender and baserunner. Unfortunately, he’s going to be run out until his team control is over."

"Volpe is one of the most overrated prospects the Yankees have hyped up," another said. "I remember they were calling him the next Derek Jeter. What a joke."

"How much longer do they let him deteriorate before making a change?" another asked.

Volpe is slashing .225/.306/.406 with nine homers and 44 RBI in 84 games this season. The 2023 Gold Glove Award winner has 11 errors and is on pace to pass his career-high of 17.

Right-handed pitcher Will Warren (5-4, 4.37 ERA) will start for the Yankees on Wednesday against Blue Jays right-hander Jose Berrios (4-3, 3.26 ERA).
