The Oklahoma Sooners are hoping for much better fortune on the injury front in 2025, especially at wide receiver. One of OU's big portal additions, Javonnie Gibson, suffered an injury in spring ball, breaking his leg during practice. By all accounts, Gibson was having a great spring and developing a strong rapport with new Oklahoma quarterback John Mateer.
But the injury put his 2025 in jeopardy. However, as the Sooners get ready for fall camp in a few weeks, head coach Brent Venables shared where Gibson is in his recovery when he met with the media before his SEC media days appearance.
Venables shared with select media, including Ryan Aber of The Oklahoman, that Gibson is out of the boot and on schedule to be ready for the start of the 2025 season.
Outside of Deion Burks, the Sooners have question marks at wide receiver heading into fall camp. Javonnie's timeline and the recovery of former four-star prospect Jayden Gibson are the top injury storylines on the offensive side of the football. If both players are back for the week one matchup against Illinois State, the Sooners will get a boost heading into 2025.
