The Toronto Blue Jays beat the Cleveland Guardians 6-0 on Wednesday, but they suffered a scary loss on the injury front. Superstar Vladimir Guerrero Jr. left in the bottom of the fourth inning with a forearm contusion after getting hit by a pitch in the top of the third.

The 26-year-old is slashing .281/.387/.449 with 11 homers and 40 RBI over 79 games so far, and he leads the team in OBP. He's also tied with Bo Bichette and George Springer for the most home runs on the squad.

The Blue Jays revealed Guerrero's final status ahead of Friday's bout with the Boston Red Sox, via their social media.

The slugger will sit out, and backup Ernie Clement will replace him at first base.

Manager John Schneider mentioned that Guerrero's X-rays were negative earlier in the day, via MLB Network radio.

"His X-rays yesterday were negative. Talking to him last night on the plane, I think he'll [be in the lineup]," he said. "I think he'll be okay. That was kind of his demeanor last night."

"With a guy like him, you wanna be careful," he continued. "If he needs an extra day, he'll get it. But thankfully, the X-rays were negative, and he was in good spirits after the game."

Guerrero signed a 14-year, $500 million extension with Toronto on April 7. The veteran was originally scheduled to be a free agent this offseason.

The Blue Jays are 2.5 games behind the Tampa Bay Rays for second place and three games behind the New York Yankees for first place in the AL East. They also own the AL's second Wild Card spot.

Right-handed pitcher Jose Berrios (3-3, 3.51 ERA) will start for Toronto on Friday at Fenway Park.
