Is Jeremiah Smith the greatest college football wide receiver of all-time? That’s going to be a conversation if he keeps on playing like he has over the first five games.

Illinois and Iowa both tried to stop Smith over the last two weeks, and all he did was catch 23 passes for 423 yards and six touchdowns. The guy is getting better and better as Ohio State is rolling after the loss to Texas, and now it’s Maryland’s turn to try slowing him down.

The Terps are having issues, getting run over by UCLA in a 54-3 loss, and struggling last week at Nebraska in a 48-23 defeat. There’s still time to turn the season around with a decent second half schedule, and a good performance in this would be a huge boost.

Why Maryland Will Win

The Terps need Ohio State to be looking past this to the showdown against Indiana, and they have to come out letting it rip.

No one in the Big Ten has thrown more passes this season than Maryland quarterback Malik Washington. It’s been a bit of a rocky road, but when he’s on like he was in the loss to Virginia Tech – throwing for 359 yards and three scores – the Terp offense is dangerous.

The Maryland defense isn’t stopping anyone.

Yes, Jeremiah Smith will have his moments, but this is when the Ohio State running game has to get going. It’s been okay, but not great, like it was in previous years, but it keeps on trying.

The offensive line is what it is – it’s giving up too many sacks, and it isn’t consistent for the ground game – but Maryland’s defense allowed 266 rushing yards to UCLA, 209 against Nebraska, and on the year, quarterbacks are hitting 65% of their passes.
